Glanbia is one of Ireland’s leading Food and Nutrition multi-nationals employing more than 7,000 people in Ireland, UK, Western Europe, USA and China. In recent years the company has experienced rapid growth, particularly in the USA through its Performance Nutrition Division.

HPC was invited to and won a competitive tender to design and deliver a values-based Leadership Development Programme. This programme was driven by the imminent launch of Glanbia’s new purpose, vision and values and the results of the company’s Engagement Survey earlier in the year.

Our Approach

The company wished to create a programme that would reinforce their new purpose, vision and values and provide their managers with the skills and knowledge to translate these values into action.

There was a particular emphasis in the programme on understanding how the application of Glanbia’s values drives day-to-day engagement in the organisation.

We partnered with a cross-divisional internal design team to develop the multi-phase “Leading the Glanbia Way” Programme. The programme covered Leadership and Management, Personal Effectiveness, Performance Management and Change Management, all of which were rooted in the company’s purpose, vision and values.

We designed a blended Programme using a combination of:

  • Webex
  • Personality profiles
  • Transfer activities
  • Values exploration pack
  • Interactive one and two-day workshops

Informative, engaging and interactive programmes delivered by facilitators who have shaped content around their knowledge and experience. The breadth of material that we covered will assist me with challenging and new situations and I am better positioned now to address the pertinent issues that face me as a leader.


Post pilot, the programme was rolled out in Ireland, UK, Europe and the US.

This programme has been rolled out to more than 400 participants ranging from the Top 120 leaders (including Executive Team members) to First Line Managers in Ireland and the USA. Overall satisfaction rates exceeded 90% with exceptionally high engagement levels during the programme and between Modules.

Follow-up pulse surveys and full engagement surveys showed a significant increase in overall engagement score across the organisation along with a significant increase in employee understanding of and connection with Glanbia’s Values.
